People who are obese may reap metabolic benefits from consuming mangosteen, according to a study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food. In this study, researchers in Korea looked at the effects of mangosteen on metabolic syndrome in mice fed with a high-fat diet, as well as the underlying mechanisms related to adipogenesis.
Based on these results, the researchers concluded that mangosteen extract has anti-obesity properties due to its effect on energy metabolism and hepatic lipid homeostasis.
